Working with Actors
Peter Miner, Adjunct Professor Columbia University
Working with actors is an often neglected part of a director's training. In this workshop we'll discuss breaking down the script, the casting process, rehearsal and collaborating with the actors during the shoot. The emphasis will be on communication and on creating an atmosphere on the set that encourages the actors to take risks.
Peter Miner directed the television series "One Life to Live" for twenty years, winning two Emmys for "Outstanding Direction" in the process. He has written and directed several short films. He has directed Off-Off Broadway. He currently teaches a course on Working with Actors at Columbia University Graduate Film School and with his wife, Diane, teaches on-camera acting at the T. Schreiber Studio. They also team up to coach actors.
Storyboard Workshop
Alex Echevarria, Storyboard Artist, Filmmaker
This workshop will cover my own personal history in the industry, the requirements and "nuts and bolts" of the profession itself, and anecdotes that will reflect on some the interesting people and events I have encountered throughout my eight years in the business. It will include an oral presentation combined with the visual aid of actual storyboard samples from my own portfolio, from actual industry jobs. I will also have a sample storyboards from the "Figure Four" short film, being shown at the festival. The majority of the work will be from actual commercial, television, and film projects.
Alex Echevarria works as a storyboard artist.
